List every vehicle, trailer, lift, workbench and storage rack. Establish overhead-door sizes and turning space before the house layout consumes the footprint.
Create a Buffer
Mudrooms, laundry rooms, storage and mechanical spaces can create useful separation between the shop and primary living spaces.
Think About Future Use
A loft, bonus room or unfinished area can provide expansion potential. Plan stairs and structure early even if the space will not be finished immediately.
