Volleyball Needs Both Floor Area and Vertical Clearance
An indoor volleyball building should be planned around the court, safe perimeter space and an unobstructed overhead zone. The shell dimensions alone do not tell you whether the building will play well.
Keep the Playing Zone Clear
Columns, braces, doors and stored equipment should stay away from the court perimeter. Lighting, fans, heaters and ducts need to be coordinated above the playing area.
Multi-Sport Buildings
Basketball and volleyball pair well in a private sports barn when the structural layout, goals, net systems and floor markings are planned together. Pickleball or workout areas can add even more use.
Commercial vs. Private Use
Commercial facilities may need spectator areas, accessible circulation, restrooms, emergency egress and other code-related features beyond what a private accessory sports building requires.
